Animal Research and Service Centre (ARASC)

Animal Research and Service Centre (ARASC) is a center providing various services which include research animal housing and procedure rooms, laboratory animal breeding and procurement, and veterinary and technical expertise to assist researcher and lecturer in animal handling and management. It has two center located in USM Main Campus, Penang and USM Health Campus, Kubang Kerian Kelantan.

Human Research Ethics Committee of USM (JEPeM)

The Human Research Ethics Committee of USM (JEPeM) was established under the School of Medical Sciences in 1987 and responsible to review research proposals for research grants application which is later expanded to include vetting on ethical issues. In 2002, the Committee was made the only human ethics committee for University Sains Malaysia. This Research and Ethical Committee is listed under the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP), United States Department of Health & Human Services, since October 2004 as we began to do more clinical trials involving international pharmaceutical companies The Federal-wide Assurance (FWA) identification number is FWA00024213 and the Institutional Review Board (IRB) number is IRB00010568. The Committee adopts research ethics guidelines outlined by the Helsinki Declaration agreed by the World Medical Association and Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS).

Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (USM IACUC)

The Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (USM IACUC / USM JKPPH) primary responsibility is to ensure that the care and use of animals for scientific purposes (which include research and teaching) are humane, ethical, and in compliance with applicable national and USM laws and regulations governing the use of animals.

Dental Technology Laboratory, School of Dental Sciences

Dental Technology Laboratory is one of the main laboratory that is located in School of Dental Sciences, USM. Currently the laboratory is supervised by 25 trained Dental Technologies where all dental prosthesis is made by its own discipline such as prosthodontics, removal appliances, maxillofacial and implant cases.

There are 5 main units of Dental Lab specifically: Prosthodontic Unit, Cobalt-Chrome Unit, Maxillo Facial Unit, Orthodontic Unit and Ceramic Unit.

All units involve in laboratory managements as well as store keeping, ensure lab environment clean and organize. Apart from that each unit organizes related courses on a regular basis to enhance skills and current knowledges. Technologies are responsible to guide Undergraduate and Postgraduate students in dental laboratory works in term of teaching and learning. Research activities also conducted in these laboratories.

School of Health Sciences

At the School of Health Sciences, one can expect an exceptional academic environment. Institute for Research in Molecular Medicine (INFORMM)

Institute for Research in Molecular Medicine (INFORMM) was founded in 2003 when a small group of eleven researchers banded together under the Medical Biotechnology research cluster to form the institute. Officially established at the USM Health Campus, INFORMM has also been running its activities from its facility at the Main Campus in Penang since 2007. This unique set-up in the Health and Main Campuses provides INFORMM with the unique opportunity to directly tap into the available expertise and facilities at the various schools at USM as well as the Hospital USM.

INFORMM offers graduate full-time and part-time, research-mode studies at the Master and Doctoral levels. As of September 2017, INFORMM has offered full-time or part-time mixed-mode program leading to the Master of Science degree upon completion.
